Welcome to SHS

2009-2010 School Year

Dear Parents,

I would like to welcome you and your child to Staunton High School (SHS). We hope that their four years with us will be educationally profitable. I graduated from SHS in nineteen-ninety and I cannot even begin to explain how excited I am to have the opportunity to help your child in the same way that SHS helped me.

High school is a time of change. The work load and social adjustments are greater here than at the junior high level. Your child will be expected to attend school regularly, complete all assignments and behave appropriately. We hope that the school year will be exciting and will be filled with many new opportunities.

Your child will receive a student handbook on the first full day of school. Please read the handbook carefully. There is a lot of important information contained in the handbook that will clear up many of the questions that you may have about high school. In addition, your child is responsible for knowing what is contained in the handbook (i.e. rules, graduation requirements, etc).

The primary focus of the administration, faculty, and staff at Staunton High School is to create and to provide a comfortable, safe learning environment for our students. In addition, we are committed to providing the students of our community with a well-rounded, standards-based curriculum that prepares them to be successful at the post-secondary level, as well as on the job. The faculty and staff at Staunton High School are dedicated, caring individuals who are committed to teaching and making Staunton High School a wonderful place to work and learn.

Again, I would like to welcome your child to SHS. If you have any questions about the school or any concerns about your child do not hesitate to call me. My phone number is 635-3838. In addition, you can e-mail me at efletcher@stauntonschools.org. I look forward to working with you and your child for the next four years at SHS.

Sincerely,

Edward D. Fletcher
Principal
