Staunton CUSD #6 Bond Proposal

On November 5, 2024 an important bond proposal will be on the ballot for Staunton CUSD #6. This bond proposal aimed at addressing critical infrastructure needs for Staunton High School and addressing safety and security issues across campus facilities.

Overview of the Proposal:

If approved, this bond proposal will provide funding for several key improvements:

  • Add a 20-classroom, 2-story addition - maintaining the same number of classrooms

  • New auxiliary gym - includes seating for 500, lockers and performing arts stage

  • Air conditioning in the main gym

  • Relocate bus parking

  • Update bus drop off to enhance safety for students

  • New furniture and equipment in new building

Staunton High School has served our community well over the years. However, many of its facilities are outdated, worn out and costly to maintain. The proposed upgrades will address:

  • Safety, Security and Accessibility: Enhancements to safety, security and accessibility are crucial for the well-being of our students.

  • Instructional Support: New classrooms will better support current educational best practices and offer improved climate control in the gym, benefiting students, teachers and the community as a whole.

  • New Construction: Modern roofs, windows, doors, and essential systems will address inefficiencies, security issues and reduce operational costs, allowing more funds to be directed toward educational priorities.

Our high school has reached the point where significant investments are necessary to ensure it continues to serve our students effectively. Maintaining and repairing the current facility has been an ongoing challenge, and this proposal represents a major step towards providing our students with proper and effective learning environments. Even with the economic challenges of rising costs, this proposal aims to keep the district’s tax rate within average rates for K-12 districts in Illinois, avoiding higher costs down the road.
