Eclipse Graphic

Dear Staunton Families,

During the afternoon of Monday, April 8, 2024, a total solar eclipse will be visible in Illinois and we are planning for all of our students and staff to view the eclipse weather permitting.  After this event next Monday, there will not be another total solar eclipse in the United States until 2044 and we are excited to provide this unique educational opportunity for our students!

Safety is always a high priority for Staunton CUSD #6 and the District has secured eclipse safety eye-wear for all students and staff to wear during the event.  While the District is planning to provide an opportunity for a safe, educational experience, we understand that some parents may not want their children to participate.  If you have concerns about your child participating in the viewing experience, please contact your child’s school office.

We encourage parents to begin conversations now about the eclipse and help prepare your students for this great experience.  By clicking the following link, you can view information on how to view a solar eclipse safely: https://eclipse.aas.org/eye-safety.

Sincerely,

Brett T. Allen, Superintendent
