Bond Proposal Logo

Dear Staunton Families and Community Members,

We would like to inform you about an important issue that will be on the November 5, 2024, ballot for Staunton CUSD #6. This bond proposal addresses improved classrooms and labs and critical infrastructure needs at our high school. It also addresses safety and security concerns across the entire campus.

Overview of the Proposal

If approved, this bond proposal will provide funding for several key improvements:

  • New Facilities: A 20-classroom, 2-story addition will be constructed, maintaining the current number of classrooms but providing updated instructional spaces. A new auxiliary gym will also be added, featuring seating for 500, lockers, and a performing arts stage.

  • Upgrades: The proposal includes air conditioning for the main gym, relocation of bus parking, and an updated bus drop-off area to enhance safety.

  • Improvements: The addition will bring new furniture and equipment in the new building.

It’s Needed

Staunton High School has served our community well over the years. However, many of its facilities are outdated, worn out and costly to maintain. The proposed upgrades will address:

  • Safety, Security and Accessibility: Enhancements to safety, security and accessibility are crucial for the well-being of our students.

  • Instructional Support: New classrooms will better support current educational best practices and offer improved climate control in the gym, benefiting students, teachers and the community as a whole.

  • New Construction: Modern roofs, windows, doors, and essential systems will address inefficiencies, security issues and reduce operational costs, allowing more funds to be directed toward educational priorities.

It’s Time

Our high school has reached the point where significant investments are necessary to ensure it continues to serve our students effectively. Maintaining and repairing the current facility has been an ongoing challenge, and this proposal represents a proactive step towards providing our students with proper and effective learning environments. Even with the economic challenges of rising costs, this proposal aims to keep the district’s tax rate within average rates for K-12 districts in Illinois, avoiding higher costs down the road.

It’s About Bulldog Pride

Our schools are central to the pride of our community - Bulldog Pride. Renovating and updating our high school is an investment in our future that strengthens our community values and enhances the educational environment where our children learn and grow. Well-maintained and updated schools contribute to strong property values and enhance our community’s appeal.

We encourage you to review this proposal carefully and consider its potential impact on our school district and community. Your participation in this decision is important to the future of Staunton High School and future generations of students.

Thank you for your attention to this matter and for your continued support of Staunton CUSD #6. To learn more information, please review the Bond Proposal Website.

Sincerely,

Brett T. Allen, Superintendent
