Staunton Families,
With the suspension of on-site learning extended through April 30, 2020 we will now be transitioning to a remote learning plan. These are unprecedented circumstances that none of us have experienced. We as educators and families must partner together in remote learning to best meet the needs of your children and our students. As we learn and grow together from this experience we will continue to update our plans when it is necessary to do so in the best interest of students. We ask for your flexibility, adaptability, patience and understanding as we move forward. We are in this together and we will get through this together.
Spring Break
April 6th - April 10th is Spring Break for Staunton Schools. Students will not be given new work nor expect to join any electronic classes over break. We recognize that since the suspension of on-site learning, it has been a lot for all of us to adjust to this new “normal.” Spring break is an opportunity for our students and families to step back, relax, and connect with each other.
Remote Learning
Remote learning will begin Monday, April 13th with a remote planning day. There will be an opportunity for students who need new continued learning kits to pick them up that day. Information from individual building principals will be sent in the coming days on how and when to pick up these materials. Remote learning will resume Tuesday, April 14th. The detailed Staunton CUSD #6 Remote Learning Plan will be sent to families Friday, April 3rd.
Grades
Our priority for schoolwork assigned, reviewed, and completed during remote learning is on learning, not compliance. Students will not experience educational harm during the remote learning period. We as a school district will provide emotional support for each family’s individual situation. All students will have the opportunity to redo, make up, or try again to complete work assigned. Detailed grading explanations will be provided in the Staunton CUSD #6 Remote Learning Plan.
Participation
All students and families are expected to participate in remote learning to the best of their ability. Students and/or families are requested to check email and google classroom once per day. Families without internet access are requested to contact their child’s teacher and/or principal and to pick up new continued learning kits when made available. Families who are not able to pick up new continued learning kits are requested to contact their principal and the materials will be made available to you.
As we move forward together we will continue to evolve in our best practices to serve our students. Our commitment to one another is to take care of each other so that we can take care of our children and students.
Stay well everyone.
Dan W. Cox, Superintendent of Schools
