Staunton Elementary School

Staunton Families: Tonight the school district had to cancel the boys home basketball game due to a threat that was received by the Staunton Police Department.  Administrators worked with staff to quickly and safely clear the campus.  The building was then secured and locked down while the Staunton Police Department investigated the threat.  Upon further investigation it was deemed by the police department that the threat was not credible.  Out of an abundance of caution for student and staff safety the school district will have a police presence on campus tomorrow.

We celebrated the 100th day of school yesterday! Mrs. Moore's kindergarten class dressed up and displayed some "100s" artwork. Mrs. Larsen’s English class and Mrs. Joyce’s kindergarten class shared their love of reading by enjoying some books. 1/31 Cheer Clinic Information! If your child registered to attend the cheer clinic tomorrow, students can be picked up from school at 5pm in the Community Room parking lot. This past weekend, School Board President Dr. Jain and teachers Jessica Larsen and Brianna Bohlen had the privilege of meeting and hearing the story of a Holocaust survivor, Gittel Burns, who resides right here in Staunton. Along with author Lisa Johnson, Gittel shared her incredible story of resilience and courage, including her time in the Shanghai Ghetto. Gittel and her father, Walter Berger, moved to the United States and befriended Staunton's own Henry and Linda Makler, eventually settling in our great community. Her story serves as a poignant reminder of our strength and the importance of standing up against hate and injustice. We are grateful to Gittel for sharing her experiences and to our staff for continuing to seek meaningful ways to connect with and learn from our community's history.
