Below is the letter that was sent home with the Seniors today after their meeting. The letter contains important graduation information.
May 1, 2023
Dear Seniors,
Your high school education will conclude with graduation on Friday, May 19th at 7:00 PM in the gym. We are proud to have been associated with you during your education at Staunton High School. We want to make graduation a dignified occasion for you, your family, and relatives. It is important that you assist us in making this event a serious and formal occasion.
There has been a trend in many high schools to create disruptions during graduation exercises. An appropriate celebration (confetti, air horns, etc.) after graduation is acceptable. However, disruptions during exercises could interfere with the individual recognition of each graduate. Please make sure any celebration is at the proper time in an appropriate manner.
Since students are not required to attend graduation to receive their diploma, we do ask that you conform to our requests. Caps and gowns will be worn for the ceremony. Please dress appropriately with your cap and gown (dress shoes, dress pants, etc). There will be no wearing of inappropriate items or any alterations of approved graduation apparel (lettering on caps and gowns, etc.). If you have additional questions, please stop by the high school office. Any student in violation of these rules will not be allowed to participate in the graduation ceremony. If you have a handicapped member in your family, we ask that you contact the school and let us know so we can reserve a seat for them at graduation. You MUST call the office by Thursday, May 18th.
Listed below is a schedule of events for graduation day.
Sincerely,
Carrie J. Griffith
Principal

F-SO Track Meet at Southwestern today has been canceled.
This is just a reminder as we approach prom and get ready to close out the school year. As we move towards graduation, we want our Seniors to enjoy their last few days with us. There are online challenges encouraging pranks and destruction of school property. If this occurs, it could involve legal action, discipline, and the inability to participate in the graduation ceremony. Our seniors have worked too hard to get to this point, to have it ruined because of inappropriate behavior. Let's close out the year in a positive manner and celebrate all that these students have accomplished and all of your hard work to get them to this point.
Congratulations to the Class of 2023 Silver Medallion Award Winners: Valeria Cazares, Andrew Dustman, Zachary Painter, Emma Saracco, Samantha Schnefke, Taylor Seelbach, and Emma Tjaden. These students are the top 8% of their class and were honored at a banquet at Lewis and Clark Community College for their achievements! #BulldogPride #LeadChallengeAchieve

SENIORS DO NOT need to be at school tomorrow April 12, 2023. They should be taking the opportunity to visit a college or trade school, job shadow, perform an act of community service, or work with their recruiter. They have a form that needs to be filled out and returned to school on Thursday in order to be counted as present for the day of the 12th. If the form is not signed and returned, they will be marked absent. Do to state testing for grades 9-11, they are not allowed to be on campus.
REMINDER THAT GRADES 9-11 WILL BE TESTING TOMORROW. Below is the information. If your student is absent, they will have to make up the test.
Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s):
On Wednesday, April 12th, all Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors will be involved in testing.
Freshmen and Sophomores will take the PSAT, a standardized preparatory test for the SAT. Data from the PSAT will be utilized to help prepare the underclassmen for their SATs. Juniors will participate in the SAT, which can be used for college admissions decisions, dual credit enrollment, and college course placement.
For a successful day of testing, it is important that your student gets a good night’s sleep, a healthy breakfast, and some positive encouragement before the start of school. It is critical that your student is in attendance on this day as these tests are required by the state of Illinois. ALL students need to report to their designated testing room by 8:10 AM, testing will begin NO LATER THAN 8:15 AM. PSAT testing will conclude around 12:00 PM and SAT testing around 1:00 PM. If your child has accommodated testing with extended timing, testing could go longer (all testing will conclude by 1:00 PM).
Students will need at least a couple of non-mechanical number 2 pencils, an approved calculator (click here for calculator policy), and clear bottle of water/small snack (Juniors may want to bring a couple snacks). Phones and smartwatches are not permitted in the testing area and will have to be turned in if brought to the testing room.
Students will be released for the day once testing in their room is completed. Students can go to the cafeteria for lunch after testing if needed. Students who do not have a way to leave campus early must notify the office in advance that they wish to remain on campus. Those students will report to a designated room to wait for buses. Buses will run at the regularly scheduled dismissal time.
Please reach out if you have any questions, comments, or concerns.
JV baseball at Gillespie on Saturday is canceled.
Softball at home tomorrow vs Pawnee has been canceled.
Girls' Soccer is canceled for today due to weather conditions. They will play tomorrow at noon vs Taylorville.
