The following message is from Staunton Schools. The Macoupin County Health Department, in conjunction with the Illinois Department of Public Health made the recommendation that the Staunton School District take an Adaptive Pause. This is due to increasing numbers of COVID-19 positive students and a rising number of students quarantined as a result of close contact within a short time frame. Based on the departments’ recommendations, the school district opted to pursue the closure in the best interest of the students and staff in order to try to get the positivity and quarantine rates lowered. We will be taking an adaptive pause from August 20-29, 2021. As of the information we have today, students will return to school on August 30. During this time, our students will continue to learn remotely. The district will be working in conjunction with the health department and the state of Illinois to monitor the students and staff over the next few weeks in order to identify new cases and try to slow the spread.
